Our friend Ron, WB2OOB, is giving a 2-day instructional class which caters to the non-ham by explaining concepts and operating practices in everyday terms that anyone can easily understand and master.  Unlicensed as well as newly licensed people are all encouraged to attend.

Location: Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Education Center (visitor’s entrance), 361 Alexander Spring Rd, Carlisle
Dates: Saturday March 14 8a-5p and Sunday March 15 8a-3p
Cost: $15 (includes exam fees)

South Mountain Radio Amateurs is administering an exam for all license classes:

Time: 2pm
Cost: $10 (cost includes $4 discount)
Registration: Call Sam Michaels, KB3OOJ at (717) 258-3334 or email kb3ooj (at) arrl (dot) net.  Walk-ins are welcome, but please call ahead so we can ensure there is enough space and test materials for you
What to Bring:

  1. For currently-licensed candidates, the ORIGINAL and a COPY (that we can keep) of your FCC-issued license AND if you haven’t received your most recent FCC-issued license for your class, the ORIGINAL and a COPY of your CSCE.
  2. Two forms of photo ID
  3. Simple calculator (add, subtract, multiply, divide); graphing or other advanced devices will have their memories cleared by an examiner prior to the test; iPhones, Blackberries, and other cell phones are NOT permitted to be used as calculators
  4. Your $10 exam fee (this includes a $4 discount paid by the SMRA from the actual test fee of $14)

All candidates, pass or fail, are encouraged to join the SMRA, which is FREE to newly licensed amateurs (licensed within the past year).

The fine print:

  • Candidates with handicaps should please, please, PLEASE call ahead so that we may accommodate you; we want everyone to get a license!
  • If you don’t bring everything required, we can’t test you!
  • The examiners may, at their sole discretion, refuse to test or end an exam at any time for any reason.
  • The paperwork is mailed the following day to ensure new licensees receive their callsign as quickly as possible.  Upgrades may begin using their new privileges immediately, however new licensees CANNOT get on the air until the FCC issues a callsign.
  • SMRA tests and examiners are accredited through W5YI-VEC.
